Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22, is an opportunity for people around the world to demonstrate their support for environmental protection.

This year, Chattanooga-based environmental organization, green|spaces, celebrated Earth Day by hosting its 4th Annual Eco Field Day on Davenport Field, in partnership with Finley Stadium.

Local companies including Volkswagen of Chattanooga, EPB, and the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, were invited to compete in a series of challenges designed to raise awareness on environmental issues such as preserving food and water, waste and carbon emission reduction, climate activism, and species conservation.

The event also featured a group of 10 conservation and environmental nonprofits, including Drive Electric Scenic City, National Park Partners, and the Conservation Kid, who joined the teams on the field.

Between challenges, teams learned what actions are happening locally to reduce pollution and protect the region’s natural resources.

“Sustainability touches every part of our lives and Earth Day is one day where everyone looks to green|spaces and asks, ‘What can we do better?’ Eco Field Day is a fantastic opportunity to reconnect adults to what it’s like to be a kid again and celebrate the earth,” Madison Rollings, Director of Sustainability Events, green|spaces said.

The event proceeds went to fund green|spaces’ mission of helping people be the change they want to see in the Chattanooga region. Since launching in 2007, green|spaces has promoted best practices for companies looking to reach their sustainability goals — providing knowledge and resources to those looking to be better stewards of our natural environment.

As Earth Day continues to grow in popularity and significance, events like green|spaces Eco Field Day highlight the importance of promoting environmental awareness and taking action to support sustainability. By coming together and working towards a common goal, we can make a positive impact on our planet and ensure a sustainable future in Chattanooga for generations to come.
